If you haven’t seen this video, I recommend you take five minutes out of your next lunch break to sit back and absorb this well documented way of looking at the changing makeup of our world demographics, commercial activity, and technology. As a side note, the video itself is testimony to how all three of the factors I just mentioned have become facilitators of this type of content. A little social media background info about the video:
- 2006 – created as a PPT by a teacher for students and faculty members to encourage dialogue on the our evolving world.
- One month later, it is posted to the teacher’s blog.
- Bloggers and education communities talk it up.
- 2007- Redesigned by another blogger, made into a movie, and posted on Youtube and Myspace generating even more discussion.
- Ad agency volunteers to redesign it
- Video is translated and passed around the world
- 2008 – News articles pick up on the movies success, propelling its popularity
- Sony redesigns for their own company meetings
- 2009- Over 20 million people have seen the video, not including you, and the countless others at conferences, training institutes, and other venues…including the media summit in Berlin where I used it to open my presentation. During the time it takes to watch it, all the numbers will increase in the real world–time for a sequel?
