Social Media (R)EVOLUTION?
ByWith Facebook passing 300 mil. members and Twitter allowing the revolution to be televised, it is time to update the “Did You Know” video that I posted after using it in my Berlin speech. This New Video is a solid production piece (same borrowed sound track) updated to a level of quality that you will want to share in your posts and use in meetings and speeches. Besides chronicling many things measured and Social Media’ s continuing expansion, it is entertaining.

One of the many interesting stats that should be checked and monitored–”1 in 8 couples married in the US last year met via social media”! Sounds like a revolution, unless you consider that it has been an evolving trend since the early 90’s. Back then, I was running Imagination Network, an online games and social entertainment company which was acquired by AOL, and I remember announcing the 10th couple who married after meeting in one of our online communities. It was a huge deal then and we have evolved from online “fringe” to mass-market audiences since. However, we are evolving still and services will continue to shift from brand/platform centric to lifestyle directed models that can help people spend less time searching (clicking from brand to brand). Instead services will begin to revolve around people, and eventually do a better job at listening and connecting them to what they want, whatever it is–without all the fuss.
Another creative comparison in the video between Ogilvy and Carnegie, socially suggests advertisers should listen first/sell later, take advantage of the technology and do a better job of playing in this ever evolving landscape. Enjoy the video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sIFYPQjYhv8
